Dragons and Mermaids and Fairies - Oh My!

Fantasy and history will meet once again starting next weekend as the Carolina Renaissance Festival returns for their 25th year of family friendly entertainment, artisans and games!  Since beginning in 1994 the Carolina Renaissance Festival has become an annual Autumn staple in the area and is now one of the largest renaissance themed events in the country. During its 8-weekend season, running September 29th through November 18th, nearly 200,000 people will journey into the 25 acre village to enjoy the fun and magic of a simpler time and place.

The always popular jousting tournament, where skilled stunt riders, outfitted in suits of armor, ride their horses into battle, is always a lot of fun!  You’ll also be entertained by "unbalanced acrobats", the Ancient Art of Falconry and fourteen stages of music, dance, circus acts and comedy, storytellers and puppeteers, along with hundreds of costumed characters, filling the village with non stop fun and excitement throughout the entire day. Many of the shows are spontaneous so you never know what will happen next, on stage or off!

The much-loved fanciful creatures of the festival’s forest will also return, such as Twig the Fairy (a guest favorite!), who dazzles patrons with her music and fairy-dust and Fireflicker the Curious Dragon who roams about to award dragon gold to children with magic in their hearts.  There is also an all NEW Living Mermaid exhibit where you can see Fairies of the Sea swimming about in a 30,000 pound aquarium! --- Every little girl’s dream!!

Both, kids and adults of all ages will enjoy the challenges and fun of the countryside faire games such as archery, ax-throwing, castle-storming. and climbing Jacob’s ladder or tossing tomatoes at the “fools” locked in the stocks over at “Vegetable Justice”. The human-powered rides such as Da Vinci’s Flying Machine, Voyage to the New World and the Swan Swing are a lot of fun as well!.

The village is also home to over 100 open-air, medieval tents and shops and of course food!. A wide variety of talented artisans of home décor, stained glass, handmade pottery, renaissance style clothing & jewelry, blown and torched glass, and more.  Many of them will be showing off their talent throughout the day as well which is always interesting and fun to get to see them use tools and techniques from so long ago! Food merchants throughout the village offer an endless feast of meats, like steak-on-a-stake and giant roasted turkey legs, bread bowl stews, salads, a renaissance favorite- cinnamon-roasted almonds! Don’t forget to stop by the Chocolate Shoppe, Cappuccino Inn and The Monk’s Bakery for a unique variety of yummy sweet treats and confections!  The pubs throughout the village serve Pepsi products and lemonade as well as adult beverages like craft beer, wine, champagne, ale, and even Medieval Margaritas to complement the royal day!
